Place – Canberra, Australia

Date – 30 October 2024

The Canberra Multicultural Community Forum (CMCF) expresses its deep sorrow and concern over the recent attack on and vandalism of two Hindu temples in Canberra. Such acts of violence and disrespect have no place in Australia, a nation that prides itself on multiculturalism, respect, and harmony. The CMCF stands in solidarity with the Hindu community and condemns these actions in the strongest possible terms.
Australia is a nation that thrives on unity, diversity, and peaceful coexistence, free from the divisions and unrest we have seen take hold in other western nations. It is imperative these incidents are not used to inflame tensions to further political narratives that seek to divide our communities. We urge Australian politicians to choose their words thoughtfully and consider the broader impact of their policies. Divisive rhetoric has the
potential to escalate tensions and contribute to incidents like this, which threaten the core of our multicultural society. The CMCF calls on all political leaders and parties to champion messages of inclusion, understanding, and peace, ensuring Australia continues to stand as a global example of multicultural harmony and unity amidst a world increasingly divided by political agendas. The CMCF values its strong and positive relationship with the ACT Police and appreciates their care and professionalism in responding to incidents affecting our community. CMCF will continue to work closely with ACT Policing, alongside community leaders and government authorities, to enhance the safety, unity, and well-being of all Canberrans, regardless of their background, faith, or beliefs. Together, CMCF is committed to fostering a secure and inclusive
environment for all.
