The Council acts as a conduit to the Minister for Multicultural Affairs on the view of members of culturally diverse communities, while raising awareness of the aspirations, needs and concerns of those communities, within government and the broader community. Selection criteria:
- Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of cultural and linguistic diversity in the ACT.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the interests and concerns of culturally and linguistically diverse communities in the ACT.
- Ability to consult and represent a wide range of views for culturally and linguistically diverse communities in the ACT.
- Commitment and ability to participate fully in Council activities (e.g. consultations) and make a positive contribution to achieving its goals.
Nominees should also be able to demonstrate: good listening skills; good communication skills, including ability to present reasoned arguments; good ability to negotiate and be assertive where necessary; ability to work effectively in a group including interpersonal skills and ability to empathise with others; leadership skills.
