Standing Committee on Education and Community Inclusion – Inquiry into Racial Vilification – Invitation to make a submission

June 10, 2022 @ 5:00 pm

The ACT Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Education and Community Inclusion has extended the closing date for submissions to its Inquiry into Racial Vilification to 5pm, Friday 10 June 2022.

The Committee is very interested in hearing about experiences of racial vilification and related matters from members of the ACT community. The Committee particularly welcome submissions from people and organisations from culturally, linguistically, ethnically, and religiously diverse communities and from First Nations Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Committee is investigating the prevalence of incidents of vilification and threats of physical violence in the Territory, based on racial, linguistic, ethnic, or religious background, and status as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and the accessibility and effectiveness of mechanisms for reporting such incidents. Full terms of reference for the Inquiry are available on the Committee’s website:

Making a submission

The Committee prefers that submissions are made electronically (pdf or word format), and are emailed to: LACommitteeECI@parliament.act.gov.au

However, the Committee can also accept hand written submissions. These can be sent to:

There are few rules for submissions. However, submissions should be relevant, made in writing, and relevant to the Inquiry.

Generally, the Committee would prefer that submissions be written in English. However, if you are not confident about writing in English, you may write your submission in your first language.

Please spread the word!

The Committee wishes to gather a wide range of views and would like this information to reach as many people as possible, and most particularly in the ACT’s culturally, linguistically, ethnically and religiously diverse communities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
